
Thomas Carico, M.D., Co-Founder –A graduate of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine in Memphis. Dr. Carico completed his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the Medical University of South Carolina. As an undergraduate attended Furman University, where he received his B.S. in Chemistry, and continued interdisciplinary studies at Birkbeck College at the University of London and at the Shakespeare Institute at Stratford-on-Avon. He is board certified by the American Board of Pathology and in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Dr. Carico is licensed in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee, and is an adjunct faculty member at Georgia Southern University. He serves as a laboratory inspector, a key legislative contact, and a resident physician liaison for the College of American Pathologists. He has served on the Board of Trustees of the East Georgia Regional Medical Center; and is a member of the College of American Pathologists, American Society of Clinical Pathologists and American Pathology Foundation. Dr. Carico is a lifelong distance runner and enjoys being on the water with his family. He and his wife and three sons live near Charleston, S.C.

Ricky Wolfe, M.D., Co-Founder –Dr. Wolfe graduated from The Citadel with a B.S. in biology. He completed medical school and his residency in pathology at the Medical University of South Carolina. After completing his residency, Dr. Wolfe served on active duty at the United States Air Force Academy Hospital in Colorado Springs as a pathologist and laboratory director. He is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical pathology and is licensed in South Carolina, Georgia, and North Carolina. Dr. Wolfe has been in private practice in Statesboro, Ga., and in Gaffney, S.C. where he was on the board of directors at Upstate Carolina Medical Center. Dr. Wolfe is an avid golfer and likes bass fishing in the beautiful upstate of South Carolina where he lives with his wife and three children.

Jim Horvath, M.D., Staff Pathologist –Dr. Horvath, a native of northeastern Ohio, completed his combined science degree in chemistry in two years at Youngstown State University. He then entered the Northeast Ohio Medical University — a consortium medical school for Youngstown State University, University of Akron and Kent State University — where he completed his medical degree. He served his residency at The Ohio State University, after which he was awarded a prestigious fellowship to study gastroenterology pathology under Board Diplomat Robert E. Petras, M.D., FCAP, FACG, at AmeriPath in Cleveland. Dr. Horvath worked in private practice in South Carolina prior to joining AP Laboratories. He and his wife live in the Charleston area, where they are the caretakers of two delightful Maltese Poms: Lucille3 and Phil Mickelson. Dr. Horvath is dedicated to physical fitness, fitness training and loves to golf.

Shixiong (Jim) Liao, M.D., Staff Pathologist –Dr. Liao graduated from Shanghai Medical University, China. He also received a MS degree in Biology from Western Illinois University. Before starting his pathology residency training, he did 5 years of medical research at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Dr. Liao completed his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and Medical College of Georgia. After his residency, he continued to pursue his cytopathology fellowship training at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. He is board certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, and is licensed in South Carolina and North Carolina. Dr. Liao has been in pathology practice since 2003 with the last 5 years specialized in the gastrointestinal pathology prior to joining AP Laboratories. He lives in the Charleston area with his wife and 2 children.

Adele Fung, M.D., Staff Pathologist– Dr. Fung is a native of New York City, graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. She completed medical school at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – New Jersey Medical School. She completed a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Surgical Pathology fellowship at Emory University. She also completed a cytopathology fellowship at University of Maryland Medical Center. She is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Cytopathology and is licensed in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Nevada, and California. Prior to joining AP Laboratories, she held a faculty appointment at a medical school where she practiced surgical pathology, clinical pathology cytopathology, and taught medical students. She lives in the Charleston area with her son.

Paula Anderson, M.D., Staff Pathologist –Dr. Anderson is a native of Colorado Springs, Colorado. She graduated from Arizona State University with a BS in Microbiology. She completed medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas. She completed her residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center and her Cytopathology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine She also completed a Breast Pathology fellowship at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. She is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, and is licensed in South Carolina, Georgia, and North Carolina. Dr. Anderson has been in pathology practice since 2006, with a special interest and experience in gastrointestinal and prostate pathology. Dr. Anderson is an avid traveler, loves Zumba and enjoys spending time with her niece and nephews.
